Today, on April 21st, in Shanghai, the Chinese Grand Prix took place for the first time in five years. The race was won by the reigning world champion Max Verstappen for the first time in his career.

Three cars failed to finish the race, including Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo. The reason for his retirement was an accident a few laps before the end. However, the misfortunes did not end there for the driver. The Red Bull Racing pilot received a penalty for overtaking Nico Hülkenberg during the safety car period. The stewards decided to impose a penalty on Ricciardo, resulting in a loss of three positions on the grid for the start of the next race and two penalty points. This is the first time that the Australian driver has received penalty points.

Ricciardo explained his action by stating that Hulkenberg had overtaken him first, and he simply decided to regain his position. In the end, the stewards concluded that the German driver had the right to make that overtaking maneuver. The stewards noted that this penalty was equivalent to a 10-second time penalty, but since Ricciardo cannot serve it, he will start three places lower on the grid for the next race in Miami.
