Éric Sékou Chelle Set to Be Unveiled as Super Eagles Head Coach
Éric Sékou Chelle, the 47-year-old Franco-Malian coach, is set to be officially unveiled as the new head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Monday at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja. The unveiling ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. and marks the beginning of Chelle’s tenure as the team’s head coach, following his appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last week.
Chelle has a wealth of experience to the position, having recently resigned from his position as head coach of MC Oran in Algeria. Many were impressed by his leadership and tactical expertise as he led Mali to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals. NFF President Ibrahim Gusau urged Nigerians to embrace their new coach, expressing complete faith in Chelle's abilities to guide the Super Eagles to victory despite doubts over his hiring.
Chelle’s first task will be preparing the Super Eagles for the upcoming African Nations Championship next month in East Africa. His focus will then shift to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with key matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.
