The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup promises to be one of a kind, rewriting the rulebook for football broadcasting.

Details: According to The Touchline, FIFA has officially approved a groundbreaking innovation: this World Cup will be the first ever where viewers will witness flash interviews with players right during halftime.

This format has previously only been seen in American sports leagues and a handful of club tournaments, but now the media industry is taking backstage access to an entirely new level.

The implementation of this format will depend entirely on the initiative of the broadcasters themselves. TV networks holding official rights to a specific match are now legally entitled to submit a special request to FIFA for halftime interviews. If the request is approved, the players selected by the channels will be required to approach the microphones on their way to the locker room and answer journalists' questions.

Reminder: Bayern may not allow their star player to travel to the World Cup.
