A major blow for Deportivo! Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's impressive start to the season has been interrupted by a serious knee injury.
Details: According to Marca, the 37-year-old Gabonese striker is expected to miss approximately two months after suffering a meniscus injury in his right knee. Aubameyang sustained the injury during Deportivo's La Liga encounter against Real Betis on September 20, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The forward underwent an MRI scan on Monday before travelling to Madrid for further medical examinations. The tests confirmed damage to the meniscus, and surgery has been deemed necessary. Aubameyang is scheduled to undergo the operation on Thursday, September 24.
Although the initial recovery estimate is around two months, Deportivo have not announced an official return date. The exact length of the striker's absence will depend on the outcome of the operation and his subsequent rehabilitation.
The injury comes at a particularly unfortunate moment for the Galician club. Aubameyang joined Deportivo from Marseille this summer and immediately established himself as one of the team's leading attacking players.
It is worth noting that the Gabonese striker has registered five goals and two assists in seven La Liga appearances this season. He also scored in each of Deportivo's first five league matches.
