Respect! Vinicius Junior supports Lamine Yamal after racist scandal
Vinicius knows firsthand what it means to face racism.
Details: At today's press conference on the eve of tomorrow's Champions League clash against Bayern, Real Madrid's winger showed his support for Barcelona's 18-year-old Lamine Yamal after Yamal became the target of racist abuse from Spanish fans during the Spain vs. Egypt match.
During that game, certain unruly fans chanted offensive slogans aimed at Muslims—a group Yamal himself belongs to:
“I hope Lamine can continue this fight against racism. We have money, but poor black people face much greater difficulties than we do. I'm not saying that Spain, Germany or Portugal are racist countries, but there are racists in every country, and if we fight together, I hope other players and people will stop suffering from this,” said the Real Madrid winger.
Vinicius himself has repeatedly been at the center of racist scandals and therefore knows all too well the importance of fighting all forms of inequality, whether based on skin color or faith.
Reminder: Vinícius comments on Xabi Alonso’s departure and explains why he did not say goodbye
