Representatives of English football and UEFA oppose Wenger’s offside law changes
FIFA recently agreed to Arsène Wenger’s proposals regarding new offside rules, but several key football bodies are opposed to the idea.
Details: According to The Times insider Martyn Ziegler, representatives of the English Football Association and UEFA are currently against the introduction of this rule. They believe such changes would have a major impact and represent a radical shift in the game.
It would affect matches at the elite level and could also force defenders to drop far too deep in defensive lines.
Officials from the Football Association and UEFA are hoping that a compromise can be found, rather than implementing such drastic rule changes.
A FIFA meeting was recently held at which the final investment budget for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was approved. Following calculations and voting, it was decided to allocate a total of 727 million dollars, an impressive 50% increase compared to the amount allocated for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Reminder: The Swiss Federal Supreme Court has found former FIFA secretary general Jérôme Valcke and Greek businessman Dinos Deris guilty of corruption.
