Details: According to Diario Sport, Lisbon's Benfica has issued a firm ultimatum to the player: either he extends his contract until 2031 with an increased release clause, or he will be sold in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese club finds itself in a tricky position—the current deal with the 21-year-old Norwegian runs until 2028, and the "Eagles" are unwilling to risk losing an asset who, after scoring a brace against Real Madrid in the Champions League, is enjoying the best form of his career.
Reports indicate that Barcelona are monitoring the situation closely and have already ramped up their contacts. Schelderup is already on the Blaugrana’s shortlist as they search for a promising and affordable winger under the age of 23. If the club fails to retain Marcus Rashford, the Norwegian will become the top priority, and the player himself is ready to wait for an offer from Barcelona, preferring them over other European giants.
The financial aspect of the deal is especially appealing for Laporta. Despite an official release clause of €100 million, Benfica could agree to a sale for just €20 million—a massive drop compared to January, when the Lisbon side rejected a €12 million bid from Club Brugge.
