Rennes parts ways with Massara and eyes replacement candidate
Rennes Football Club and sporting director Frederic Massara have mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect, according to the club’s official statement.
Details: Despite investing €80 million in the summer and bringing in ten new signings, Rennes remain mid-table, having collected just six points from their first ten Ligue 1 matches in the 2024/25 season.
In an official press release on the Stade Rennais F.C. website, the club expressed gratitude to Massara for his professionalism and wished him all the best in his future endeavors.
Quote: “SRFC expresses its appreciation for his dedication over the past eleven months and wishes Frederic—whose professional approach and personal qualities were highly valued by everyone—the very best in the next stage of his career,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, Rennes have already identified a leading replacement candidate—Strasbourg’s head of scouting, Loic Desire. The club intends to move swiftly with the appointment to stabilize their sporting direction.
Reminder: Frederic Massara was appointed Rennes sporting director on July 10, 2024, with a mandate to overhaul transfer policy and bring the club back to European competition.
In March 2025, amid mounting pressure following a disappointing winter transfer window, rumors of his possible departure began to circulate. Now, the club has officially confirmed the end of his eleven-month tenure as sporting director.
