The Swiss national team faced Hungary in the first match of Euro 2024. By half-time the scoreboard was already 2:0 in favour of Switzerland. Kwadwo Duah, a striker from Bulgarian club Ludogorets, opened the scoring in this match.

Players from Bulgaria in general do not often play in the final stages of the Euros. For example, there were only two such players at the 2024 European Championship and none at Euro 2020.

The Switzerland vs Hungary match will be memorable for Bulgarian football in that Duah became the first representative of this league to score at the Euros.

Duah is an Englishman of Ghanaian descent. He was born in England in 1997.

The striker started his career in youth football already in Switzerland, in Young Boys. To win the competition in the first team he could not, so after several rentals in modest Swiss clubs in 2019 the striker moved to Wil, where he stayed only for a year. In 2020, the forward became a player of St Gallen, and two years later he tried his hand at German club Nurnberg, where he did not stay for long, and left the club at the end of the season.

Until then, Duah has never played in the Swiss national team. Moreover - in the spring of 2022, the Ghana Football Federation invited the player to the play-off matches for the 2022 World Cup against Nigeria, but the player rejected the offer.

"In Nuremberg, from a sporting point of view, things didn't go as well as we wanted them to. But I felt very comfortable in the city. For me, a new chapter starts now at a club with international ambitions," Dua said before his move to Bulgaria.

The breakthrough came after the transfer to Ludogorets: in the summer of 2023, the Bulgarian club planned for the player 3 million euros.

In Bulgaria, Kwadwo's career at first did not work out as well: until the beginning of October, the striker did not have a single goal and he suffered a nasty ankle injury. However, then came success: in November and December the forward scored 6 goals, and from March and until the end of the club season - 9 more.

Such a productive was the reason for the coaching staff of the Swiss national team to call him to the training camp before Euro 2024. Out of two matches he played in one and the game against Hungary was his first official game for the national team. Surprisingly, Kwadwo scored in the twelfth minute of his debut match.

The striker is already 27 years old - not a critical age, but he has to think about his achievements in football. Perhaps 2024 will be a springboard to new achievements.
