Some nights in football are so brutal that even gallows humor gives up. San Marino's cult fan account proved exactly that during the youth team's historic pounding by Spain.

Details: San Marino U21 were losing 0:12 to Spain in the European Under 21 Championship qualifier in Serravalle when the fourth official raised the board with one added minute. The famous parody account San Marino Fútbol could not take it anymore: “We're losing 12-0 and the referee decides to add one more minute. He is a son of a b****”. The post instantly went viral, collecting hundreds of thousands of views. Cruelly, the referee's decision did matter: in that very added time, Spain scored their thirteenth, final 0:13.

For the record: San Marino Fútbol is not the federation's official channel but a legendary fan project whose bio honestly reads “NOT OFFICIAL. Three wins, scarce draws, infinite defeats. Still, a passion without borders”. The account, run from Argentina with hundreds of thousands of followers, has turned supporting the worst team in the FIFA rankings into an art form, and this meltdown is already a classic of the genre. On the pitch, meanwhile, there was a genuine festival of Spanish talent: Real Madrid striker Carlos Espí scored five, Barcelona gem Jan Virgili netted a brace including a solo golazo, Mario Martín got the twelfth and Pablo García completed the baker's dozen in stoppage time. The rout sends La Rojita top of the group with 24 points: a win over Romania in Ibiza on Tuesday, or even a draw, secures first place and a ticket to the Euros. San Marino's kids, in contrast, finish the campaign with nine defeats in nine and a 0:55 goal record, yet somehow still with the most loyal fanbase on the internet.

It's worth noting that San Marino, a microstate of around 34,000 people, owns the longest winless streak in international football history: the senior team went 140 matches without a victory before finally beating Liechtenstein in 2024. Nights like this explain why every single goal kick is survived as a small war.

Reminder: Crazy numbers! Yamal keeps shining!
