The NBA club Los Angeles Lakers has been owned by the Buss family for nearly half a century. But their era with the club is now almost at an end.

Details: One of the most respected insiders in the basketball world, Shams Charania, has confirmed reports that a controlling stake in the Lakers has been acquired for $10 billion by Mark Walter, head of the investment company TWG Global. Since 2021, he has already owned 27% of the club's shares and held the right of first refusal to purchase the remainder.

Despite the sale, the Buss family will retain about 15% of the shares and the right to participate in club management. Jeanie Buss, who has owned the club since the death of her father Jerry in 2013, will keep her position as the Lakers' official representative in the league. Therefore, the deal will primarily impact strategic development, investments, and the approach to sporting results.

Reminder: If the $10 billion figure is confirmed, it will set a new all-time record in sports history. The previous benchmark was set two years ago by the NFL's Washington Commanders, when an investor group led by billionaire Josh Harris purchased the team for just over six billion dollars.
