The loudest transfer saga of the English non-league has reached boiling point.
Details: Fifth-tier Boreham Wood have rejected a £1.5 million offer from Swedish top-flight club Djurgården for Abdul Abdulmalik, a National League record sum. In response, the 23-year-old winger posted an emotional statement on Instagram, making it clear he wishes to leave the club: opportunities like this are rare, and he owes it to himself to fight for the one he has been offered.
This is already the third bid from the Swedes turned down this summer: Djurgården previously offered £750,000 and then £1 million. Boreham Wood are determined to keep their talisman, but the player himself believes he is ready for the next challenge and capable of reaching the top. Leicester have also been linked with the Millwall academy graduate, with rumours of a possible three-million-pound move swirling around the player.
The standoff between club and player now looks set to dominate the final days of the window. It's worth noting that last season Abdulmalik scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions, earning the National League Young Player of the Season award, and he is also a cousin of Torino midfielder Tino Anjorin.
