Real Madrid has initiated discussions with Chelsea regarding a permanent transfer deal for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The transfer fee is estimated to be around 15 million euros, as reported by Madrid Sports.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been playing for Real Madrid on loan from Chelsea since the start of the current season. Initially signed as a replacement for the injured Thibaut Courtois, who won't return to action before April, Kepa's current loan agreement with the Blues is set to expire in the summer of 2025.

Throughout this season, the Spanish shot-stopper has participated in 13 matches for Real Madrid across various tournaments, conceding 10 goals. In six of these games, Kepa managed to keep a clean sheet.

Arrizabalaga hasn't played since November 5 due to a muscle injury. He returned to training with the Real Madrid squad in early December. However, during the recent La Liga match against Granada (2-0), he remained on the bench, yielding the goalkeeping duties to Andriy Lunin. It was the Ukrainian who filled in for Kepa between the posts during his absence due to injury.

Previously, there were reports indicating that Lunin might depart from the Madrid club during the winter transfer window to join Villarreal.

The Royal Club currently leads the Spanish championship after 15 games, accumulating 38 points. In the Champions League group stage, Carlo Ancelotti's team has secured the top spot in advance.
