Rayados looks to offload Berterame and hopes for a saving offer Rayados looks to offload Berterame and hopes for a saving offer

Monterrey’s front office appears eager to offload Germán Berterame ahead of the upcoming Apertura 2025, with club executives reportedly frustrated by the forward’s performance. According to El Universal, the 26-year-old striker is no longer in the team's long-term plans, and the club is actively hoping for a transfer offer in the next window.

Berterame, an Argentine-born naturalized Mexican, has scored 47 goals and delivered 11 assists in 117 appearances for Rayados. Despite his numbers, he has failed to deliver silverware and is now viewed as expendable. The club had previously blocked his departure, but internal sentiment has shifted dramatically.

Portland Timbers from MLS are rumored to be the most serious suitor. A prior offer, reportedly around $15 million, matched Berterame’s release clause at the time. However, the striker's current market value has dropped to $6.5 million, according to Transfermarkt, which could complicate negotiations.

Rayados are planning a major overhaul, which will include changes to both the coaching staff and the roster. Berterame’s exit could be the first domino to fall—if the club can find a buyer. With three years left on his contract, Monterrey now waits for the phone to ring.
