Reportedly, the player fully admitted his guilt, and considering the fact that he placed bets at a young age, the court decided not to impose a harsher penalty, which could have been up to five years.
Eren Elmalı has already commented:
"I was 19 or 20 years old. I didn't know I would become this kind of footballer. When my brother told me to stop, I quit immediately."
This incident is the result of a large-scale investigation by the Turkish Football Federation, during which more than 1,000 players at various levels in Turkey were suspected of betting activities.
