Francisco Conceição's heated protest against Norway has come back to haunt Portugal.

Details: UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has suspended Juventus winger Francisco Conceição for three matches following his dismissal in Portugal's 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway. According to a disciplinary document cited by Portuguese news agency Lusa, the punishment was imposed for insults and abusive language directed at the referee.

The incident occurred in the 86th minute at the Estádio do Dragão, when Conceição received two yellow cards in quick succession for protesting. The situation escalated further as he headed towards the dressing room, where he became involved in another argument with the fourth official and had to be restrained by members of Portugal's coaching staff.

As a result, head coach Jorge Jesus will be without the 23-year-old winger for Portugal's final two Group A4 fixtures: against Denmark in Braga on November 14 and away to Wales in Cardiff on November 17.

The suspension also extends to the first leg of the Nations League quarter-finals in March 2027, as Portugal have already secured qualification. However, the Portuguese Football Federation intends to appeal UEFA's decision in an attempt to reduce or overturn the punishment.

It is worth noting that Conceição is currently recovering from an injury at Juventus, meaning his availability for the November international break was already in doubt.
