The goalkeeper paid tribute to the Leopards, who enabled the Democratic Republic of the Congo to enjoy a historic campaign.

The DR Congo’s World Cup campaign, taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, came to an end in the round of 32 following a 2–1 defeat to England. But despite this elimination, Lionel Mpasi sent a message of pride and hope. In a social media post, the goalkeeper praised the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s exceptional run on the world stage.

“Proud of this whole team, proud to have represented the DRC on the world’s biggest stage with heart and courage. Today, the disappointment is great, but the image we leave behind of Congolese and African football remains more important.”
