The overloaded fixture calendar remains a major stumbling block between FIFA and the players' union, with no consensus reached so far.

Details: The Premier League's Director of International Football Relations and European Leagues Vice-President, Mathieu Moreuil, noted that UEFA has shown greater engagement on the issue, with more cooperation between leagues and the European body than with FIFA.

Quote: “We have at least had meetings, and FIFA is now engaging with us. Both organizations have held talks with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, which is positive, but we are still far from reaching an agreement, so we will continue with legal proceedings. FIFA must discuss an appropriate calendar with all stakeholders.

This won’t be easy, but that’s exactly what we’re working on. When we look at UEFA, we’re able to discuss these issues. It’s not perfect, but at least the points we raise are being taken into account. That’s the kind of relationship we want with FIFA, and at the moment, we’re far from it. But hopefully things will improve,” Moreuil told The Athletic.
