The 2024/2025 club season in the top leagues is just around the corner. The Dailysports team have put together a guide to the upcoming English Premier League campaign.

Who will play in the 2024/2025 Premier League season?

Last season three teams left the Premier League: Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United. They will be replaced by the top two teams from the 2023/2024 Championship season, namely Leicester City and Ipswich Town, as well as play-off winner Southampton.

"Foxes" and "saints" returned to the elite of English football after a year of absence, but Ipswich will play in the Premier League for the first time since 2002.

Otherwise, the list of participants has not changed:

  • Arsenal
  • Aston Villa
  • Bournemouth
  • Brentford
  • Brighton
  • Chelsea
  • Crystal Palace
  • Everton
  • Fulham
  • Ipswich Town
  • Leicester City
  • Liverpool
  • Manchester City
  • Manchester United
  • Newcastle United
  • Nottingham Forest
  • Southampton
  • Tottenham
  • West Ham
  • Wolverhampton

Also recall that Manchester City will be defending the title for the fourth time in a row. The format of the exchange between the leagues remains unchanged: three teams will leave the Premier League, they will be replaced by the two best teams in the Championship and the winner of the play-offs.

The play-offs are played between the third and sixth placed teams at the end of the season in the Championship. The semi-finals are played between the third team and the sixth team and the fourth team and the fifth team. The semi-finals consist of two matches, home and away. Those who come out on top in the two matches will face off in a single match at Wembley in London.

When are the Premier League schedule for the 2024/2025 season?

The Premier League 2024/2025 season will run from 16 August 2024 to 25 May 2025. During the campaign, there are international breaks for national team matches (2-10 September, 7-15 November, 11-19 November 2024, and 17-25 March 2025).

The two-week winter break, which had been in place since the 2019/2020 season, has been cancelled from this season in favour of a longer summer break for players.

Longer breaks between matches have been added for the holiday period between Christmas and New Year, with no matches being played on Christmas Eve (24 December).

What coaching changes happened before the season started?

A quarter of Premier League teams, namely five out of twenty, have changed head coaches.

  • Brighton: Roberto De Zerbi (left) - Fabian Hürzeler (arrived)
  • Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp (left) - Arne Slot (arrived)
  • West Ham: David Moyes (out) - Julen Lopetegui (in)
  • Chelsea: Mauricio Pochettino (left) - Enzo Maresca (arrived)
  • Leicester: Enzo Maresca (left) - Steve Cooper (arrived)

What high-profile transfers happened in the Premier League before the start of the season?

One of the most active English clubs in the summer transfer window was obviously Chelsea. "Pensioners" made nine transfers and bought up as much as 190 million euros.

We should also note the transfer campaign of Manchester United, which, among other things, won the fight against Real Madrid for Lille defender Leny Yoro.

A high-profile transfer was also made by Tottenham, who bought Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke. The sum of 66.5 million euros was both a record purchase for Spurs and a record sale for the Cherries.

You can find all the acquisitions and losses of Premier League clubs in a separate table.

Who will represent the Premier League in the European Cup?

In the European Cup season 2024/2025 England will be represented by seven teams. Four of them, namely Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa will play in the Champions League league stage.

Premier League fifth-placed Tottenham and FA Cup winners Manchester United, who finished in eighth place last season, will be in the league stage of the Europa League.

The only English club that will be forced to go through the sieve of European Cup qualification will be Chelsea. "Pensioners" will start their campaign in the Conference League from the play-off round of qualification.

The same way the European Cup quota will be distributed in the 2024/2025 season: the top four in the league will qualify for the Champions League, the fifth team and the FA Cup winner will go to the same stage of the Europa League, and the sixth team will qualify for the Conference League.

If the FA Cup winner is a Premier League top-five team that has already secured a Champions League or Europa League place through the Championship, then there will be a shift in European Cup quotas, with the fifth and sixth teams playing in the Europa League and the seventh team playing in the Conference League.
