Piqué's Mansion Becomes a Target of Protest: What's Happening?
Former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, who owns a luxurious property in the Spanish region of Cerdanya near the French border, has found his estate at the center of a protest aimed at individuals like him.
Details: A member of the youth organization Arran targeted the home of the 37-year-old ex-footballer. Activists claim that Cerdanya is experiencing a housing crisis, as most homes in the area are used for an average of just two weeks a year.
Figures like Piqué face criticism from Arran for driving up housing costs, making it unaffordable for less wealthy residents who wish to live and work in the region.
One protester spray-painted "Snobs Out" on Piqué's fence, and in a video statement, declared: "Snobs from Barcelona who come here to enjoy the ski slopes and golf courses have no place in our territory."
Reminder: Piqué retired from football at the end of 2022. In early 2024, he expressed a desire to pursue a coaching career, though those plans have yet to materialize.
