Pioli was one step away from resigning from Milan
After a 2-2 away draw with Salernitana in December 2023, Stefano Pioli could have said goodbye to his position as Milan head coach, but one fact changed everything.
According to Calciomercato, the lack of a convincing replacement and support from Milan's most experienced players convinced the club to keep Pioli until the end of the campaign.
According to reports, Pioli's chances of remaining in charge of the rossoneri next season are pretty slim, although the 58-year-old could still save his job by winning the Europa League or Serie A title.
It's not an easy task, though, given that Inter have an eight-point lead over their neighbours with one game to spare.
The San Siro are currently busy searching for Pioli's successor, and Bologna head coach Thiago Motta is also among the likely candidates.
