Phil Foden matches a rare UEFA Champions League achievement
Manchester City hosted Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League and cruised to a 4–1 victory. In this match, Foden accomplished a remarkable feat.
Details: The English winger scored twice, with both goals coming from outside the penalty area. According to Opta, he is the first player since 2008 to net two long-range goals in a single Champions League match. The last to do so was Alessandro Del Piero against Real Madrid.
On the same night, Club Brugge’s young forward achieved a milestone of his own, scoring the first brace of his professional career — and he did it against one of the strongest clubs in world football. Forbs opened the scoring in the 17th minute, restoring Brugge’s 2–1 advantage.
Reminder: Chelsea’s head coach recently fielded the second-youngest starting lineup ever used by an English club in an away UEFA Champions League match.
