Argentine football has witnessed one of the most bizarre refereeing incidents imaginable.

Details: During the Primera Nacional clash between All Boys and Godoy Cruz on October 12, referee Nicolás Lamolina awarded a penalty to the visitors for a foul that had actually occurred outside the box. The decision sparked furious protests from All Boys players, but defender Iván Zafarana took matters into his own hands. He approached the referee with a smartphone, attempting to show him a replay proving that the foul had taken place outside the penalty area.

The extraordinary scene unfolded in the closing minutes of the match. After approximately 23 minutes of protests and confusion, Lamolina eventually overturned his original decision, awarding a free kick instead of a penalty.

However, the referee later insisted that he had not used the phone footage to make his decision. According to Lamolina, he corrected the call after consulting his assistant, who confirmed that the foul had occurred outside the box. Notably, Argentina's Primera Nacional does not use VAR.

Interestingly, this was not the first penalty controversy of the evening. Earlier in the second half, Godoy Cruz striker Martín Pino had already missed a spot kick, sending his effort against the crossbar. The match ultimately finished in a goalless draw, 0-0.
