Mathias Pogba, the brother of French footballer Paul Pogba, has been sentenced to three years in prison by a Paris court for his involvement in a €13 million extortion case in March 2022, reports Daily Mail.

However, two years of the sentence are suspended, and Mathias will serve the remaining year under house arrest with an electronic monitoring bracelet. His lawyer has announced plans to appeal the decision.

Five other individuals involved in the extortion scheme received prison sentences ranging from four to eight years.

The case dates back to March 2022, when Paul Pogba reported to the police that he was kidnapped and threatened by a group demanding €13 million in exchange for "protection services." The investigation also revealed attempts by Mathias to discredit Paul, including claims that he hired a witch doctor to curse Kylian Mbappé and accusations of neglecting his family.

Paul Pogba recently terminated his contract with Juventus and is currently seeking a new club. His doping suspension is set to end in March 2025.
