Paul Merson urges Arsenal to make Isak their top transfer target
Former Arsenal and England midfielder Paul Merson has urged the London club to make a big bid for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. According to the expert, it is the Swedish forward who can raise the level of Mikel Arteta's team and help them to the title challenge. Despite Gabriel Jesus' good results in the last month, Merson believes that the acquisition of Isak will be the key to long-term success.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports News, Merson noted that Isak is an ideal fit for Arsenal's style of play, which involves active interaction between the forwards, midfield and attacking lines. The former footballer even said that he would prefer Isak to Erling Haaland, if we consider the London team's play. According to him, the Swede can fit more effectively into Arteta's tactical scheme, adding variety and sharpness to the attack.
Merson also noted that despite Jesus’ success and Kai Havertz’s return to the starting lineup, Arsenal should not miss the chance to strengthen their attack in the winter transfer window. The £150 million Newcastle are asking for Isak is, in his opinion, justified if the team wants to challenge for the title this season and beyond. The expert particularly emphasized that the acquisition of such a player will allow them to remain competitive next year. Speaking about Arsenal’s chances in the title race, Merson stressed the importance of keeping Liverpool at a comfortable distance. At the same time, he expressed confidence that young talents such as Ethan Nwaneri can play an important role in the absence of the team’s leaders. If Arsenal can maintain their position until Bukayo Saka returns, their chances of winning the title will remain high.
