"Patches saying 'no to racism' are not enough" - Javier Tebas urges UEFA to toughen anti-racism measures
Javier Tebas brings extensive experience in combating racism within the Spanish league.
Details: At yesterday's press conference, La Liga president Javier Tebas declared that UEFA is taking an irresponsible approach to preventing racism and called for increased pressure and stronger monitoring methods during matches.
Previously in Spain, four fans were sentenced to prison for shouting racist insults at Vinicius, and Tebas believes UEFA should follow this example:
"When it comes to the Champions League, simply placing a patch that says 'no to racism' is not enough to solve the problem; more needs to be done. In our stadiums, people can report incidents. Because in many stadiums, only those nearby report them. I think other competitions need to be much more proactive and insist on doing much more.
In the case of Vinicius, we created a special system in stadiums to monitor racist chants and report them; we are extremely vigilant. In Spain, at least for the past year, Vinicius has not faced racist abuse; there are thousands of people in the stands," Tebas summarized.
Currently, the issue of racism has taken center stage in the football world after the controversial episode between Prestianni and Vinicius.
Tebas also weighed in on the possible racist remarks from Prestianni's side:
"Regarding the Vinicius case, I would like to ask for greater competence, and I continue to call for this. It's a very complex issue, both legislative and governmental, and we know cases advance slowly. We followed a strategy and achieved good results. I would like to do much more. It's essential for the good of football that racism in clubs is condemned and prevented, and I would like to see this in many other competitions as well," he concluded.
