Paolo Guerrero Wins Lawsuit Against Flamengo Over Image Rights Paolo Guerrero Wins Lawsuit Against Flamengo Over Image Rights

Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero has won a legal battle against Flamengo, his former club, in a case concerning image rights payments made during a suspension period. According to Coluna do Fla, the Brazilian court dismissed Flamengo's demand to recover R$1.8 million paid to Guerrero while he was serving a doping ban in 2018. As a result, the club will also be responsible for covering legal fees amounting to 15% of the claim’s value.

The ruling, issued by an appeals court, concluded that Guerrero is not obligated to return the funds. The forward had tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a cocaine metabolite, and served a six-month suspension. Upon his return, he played seven matches for Flamengo before transferring to Internacional, ending his stint with the Rio club.

Guerrero joined Flamengo in 2015 after a successful spell with Corinthians. During his four seasons at the club, he became a key figure and won the 2017 Campeonato Carioca. His departure, though marked by off-field controversy, did not overshadow his contributions on the pitch.

Meanwhile, Flamengo is set to kick off their 2025 Brazilian league campaign this Saturday. The team will host Internacional at the Maracanã, aiming to begin their title chase with a strong performance.
