Vasco President Pedrinho Claims Club Has One of Brazil’s Top Eight Squads

Vasco da Gama president Pedrinho has sparked discussion by claiming that the club currently boasts one of the eight strongest squads in Brazilian football. With the 2025 season set to kick off, and Vasco competing in the Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil, and Copa Sudamericana, the club’s recent reinforcements have filled the president with confidence.
"I believe our squad today ranks among the top eight in the league," Pedrinho said in an interview. He added that the team’s actual performance will determine whether they can push for a top-four finish and a Libertadores spot, or fall short of the top eight.
Vasco has brought in eight new players ahead of the campaign: Daniel Fuzato, Tchê Tchê, Lucas Oliveira, Maurício Lemos, Lucas Freitas, Nuno Moreira, Benjamín Garré, and Loide Augusto. Most of the signings are attack-minded, addressing the club’s offensive shortcomings from last season.
Pedrinho highlighted the importance of these arrivals: “Now we have fast players, smart wingers like Nuno, someone like Garré who controls the tempo, and we’ll also have Adson and David joining mid-year.”
The club’s ambition remains clear—secure qualification for international competitions and aim for a return to the prestigious Copa Libertadores. Vasco opens the Brasileirão this Sunday, March 30, against Santos at São Januário.
