After León was suspended from participating in the Club World Cup—a decision recently upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne—rumors began to swirl that Pachuca might sign León’s star James Rodríguez just for the tournament in the United States. However, the club itself showed little enthusiasm for this idea.

Details: Pachuca president Armando Martínez stated that the club is not considering signing either Rodríguez or Andrés Guardado—another León star—for the Club World Cup.

Quote: “No, neither Guardado nor James are being considered as reinforcements for Pachuca at the World Cup. Yes, we are looking at possible additions from other Liga MX clubs. We haven’t decided on names or positions yet, but we’re working on it,” Martínez told ESPN.

Reminder: At the Club World Cup, Pachuca will face Real Madrid, as well as Al Hilal and Red Bull Salzburg. The tournament kicks off on June 14, with the final scheduled for July 13.
