Bergamo's Atalanta has rewritten the history books of Italian football with an astonishing comeback in the Champions League playoffs. After suffering a crushing two-goal defeat in the first leg, the Bergamaschi managed to turn the tide in the return fixture, defeating Dortmund 4-1.
Details: With this victory, Atalanta became only the third Italian club ever to overturn a two-goal first-leg deficit in the Champions League knockout stage.
Until now, such a feat had only been achieved by the established giants of Serie A, highlighting the magnitude of this achievement for the comparatively modest Atalanta side.
Previously, Roma and Juventus pulled off similar heroics. In the 2017/18 campaign, Roma stunned the world by eliminating Barcelona, and a year later, Juventus completed a dramatic turnaround against Atletico Madrid. Now, Atalanta joins these legendary results.
Reminder: Real has set its sights on Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, with Borussia demanding 50 million euros for the transfer.
