Olympic skiing champion Lindsey Vonn makes a comeback after 5-year hiatus
Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn, now 40, has made a surprising announcement: she is set to return to competitive skiing. In an interview with The New York Times, Vonn revealed her plans to return to the sport she left in 2019 due to a series of severe injuries.
The skier, who officially retired five years ago, is ready to hit the slopes again after undergoing knee replacement surgery, which has relieved her of the chronic pain that plagued her career.
Vonn is currently preparing to compete in this season's World Cup races and may even set her sights on the 2026 Winter Olympics, scheduled to take place in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
“I’ve always enjoyed racing in Cortina and I’ve had a lot of success in Cortina. I don’t know what the next few months and the next year and a half hold for me. So I can’t say right now if it’s a possibility.”
The American skier's decision to come out of retirement after a five-year break is driven by a deep desire to honor her late mother, who passed away in 2022.
For those who might not remember, Vonn famously dated golf legend Tiger Woods from 2013 to 2015.
