Olympic high jump champion risks missing the 2024 Olympics
Very bad news has come from Paris for Italian fans.
Legendary high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi is at risk of missing the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Just two days before the qualification round, Tamberi was hospitalized with a suspected kidney stone condition.
The athlete shared his health issues on Instagram yesterday:
"First aid, CT scan, ultrasound, blood tests. Possible kidney stones. And here I am, three days before the competition I sacrificed everything for, lying in bed with a temperature of 38.8°C."
Now, Tamberi's participation in the competition is highly doubtful. A final decision will be made tomorrow.
At Tokyo 2020, Tamberi shared the gold medal with Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim. This summer, Tamberi also became the European champion.
The men's high jump qualification is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, with the final set for Saturday, August 10.
