World Athletics president Sebastian Coe, a two-time Olympic champion (1980, 1984), has voiced his support for Donald Trump’s decision to ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports, The Sun reports.

"Preserving the integrity of competition in the female category is a fundamental principle of the sport of athletics. And as we know everything starts in schools. Establishing clear, unambiguous policies is a critical first step," Coe wrote on his X page, sharing a link to the White House directive.

Coe is among the seven candidates running for the IOC presidency, a position that will be vacated by Thomas Bach in March. The World Athletics chief has been vocal about protecting women’s sports and has vowed to prevent male-born athletes from competing in women’s events if he is elected as head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Coe has long opposed the inclusion of transgender women in female athletics. In March 2023, he banned transgender athletes from competing in any international women’s athletics events.
