Olivier Safari makes controversial revelations about the Africa Cup of Nations final between Senegal and Morocco
Weeks after the controversial final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the debate has reignited.
This time, the discussions are coming from within the Confederation of African Football. At the last Executive Committee meeting in Dar es Salaam, members reportedly suggested that the referees' committee resign.
And with good reason, as they consider the mistakes made during the final in Rabat to have been catastrophic. They also mention organisational and technical problems, according to WINWIN media, which reported the information.
In addition, the chairman of the CAF Referees Committee, Olivier Safari, made comments that rubbed salt into the wound. According to him, the Senegalese players who left the pitch in protest at the controversial penalty awarded to Morocco in the final should each receive a warning when they return to the pitch.
‘Every Senegalese player should have received a warning as soon as they returned to the pitch. If it were up to me, I would have sent them all off immediately,’ said Olivier Safari.
The chairman of the CAF Referees Committee also pointed out that he did not know most of the referees who officiated at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
This is sure to reignite the debate.
