Olimpia Boasts 20-Year Home Streak Against Argentine Clubs in Libertadores

Olimpia will host Vélez Sarsfield this Wednesday in the second matchday of Group H in the 2025 Copa Libertadores, aiming to extend a long-standing unbeaten record at home against Argentine clubs, according to Versus.
The Paraguayan giants have played 20 Copa Libertadores home games against teams from Argentina, winning 15, drawing 4, and losing just once, an impressive tally that reflects an 81.66% success rate in terms of points earned.
The only defeat Olimpia has suffered at home to an Argentine side came on February 5, 2004, when Rosario Central won 2-0 in Group 9 action thanks to goals from Gonzalo Belloso and Germán Herrera.
Since that loss, Olimpia has faced Argentine opposition seven times in Asunción, recording six victories and one draw. This consistent dominance at home bolsters the club’s confidence as they prepare to face Vélez in a pivotal group stage clash.
With the backing of their fans and pressure to secure a spot in the knockout rounds, Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s team enters the match hoping to continue its impressive home form in Libertadores play. The encounter against Vélez not only tests Olimpia's current form but also presents an opportunity to reinforce their reputation as a tough host for Argentine clubs in South America’s premier tournament.
