Inter have been dealt a serious blow at the heart of their attack.

Details: Inter officially confirmed that captain Lautaro Martínez underwent clinical and diagnostic tests at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. The examinations revealed a strain in the Argentine forward's left hamstring. The club itself did not specify an exact recovery timetable.

According to AFP, Italian media expect the 29-year-old striker to spend around a month on the sidelines and believe he will not return before the next international break. If that prognosis is confirmed, Lautaro will miss one of the biggest matches on Inter's calendar — the derby against AC Milan on October 31.

The injury comes at a particularly difficult moment for Cristian Chivu's side. Inter are due to visit Bologna in Serie A on October 17, before facing Shakhtar Donetsk, Fiorentina and Venezia. The Milan derby then follows at the end of the month, while Feyenoord and Como are also on the schedule before the November international break.

Martínez was on the pitch only two days before the diagnosis. The Nerazzurri captain scored twice against Club Brugge in the Champions League on October 13, although his goals were not enough to prevent Inter from suffering a dramatic 4-3 home defeat.

It is worth noting that Lautaro has already scored four goals in Serie A this season. Inter's official statistics, updated on October 13, also place the Argentine third on the club's all-time scoring list with 181 goals in 383 appearances.
