Official! World Cup 2026 goalkeeper hero joins French giants

One of the breakout goalkeepers of the 2026 World Cup is taking a major step in his career.

Details: Lille have officially announced the signing of Paraguay international Orlando Gill from Argentine side San Lorenzo. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has signed a five-year contract with the French club, keeping him at Lille until 2031.

San Lorenzo confirmed that the transfer was agreed for €4 million. Lille did not disclose the fee in their announcement, but the Argentine club stated that it transferred 100% of the player's sporting rights and the 50% share of his economic rights that it owned.

Gill became one of Paraguay's heroes at the 2026 World Cup. He kept clean sheets against Turkey and Australia before starring in the round of 32 against Germany, where he stopped two penalties in the shootout. He then produced another impressive display against France in the round of 16, despite Paraguay's narrow 1-0 defeat.

Lille have made it clear that Gill initially arrives as the number two goalkeeper behind Berke Özer. It is worth noting that the Paraguayan already has 11 senior international caps, while Lille's official announcement also highlighted that he was named man of the match after both the Germany and France World Cup games.
