Villarreal has lured the head coach of a rival club to take charge of their squad.
Details: Today, Villarreal officially announced on their X social media page that 38-year-old Spanish coach Iñigo Pérez has been appointed as the new head coach of the team.
It is reported that Pérez replaces outgoing coach Marcelino, who could not agree on a new contract. Iñigo Pérez has signed a three-year deal with Villarreal.
Pérez's previous job was at Rayo Vallecano, where he led the Spanish side to the Conference League final, ultimately falling to Crystal Palace 0-1.
Despite Rayo's desire to keep him, the Spaniard decided not to renew his contract and left the club upon its expiration.
This season, Villarreal finished third in La Liga, securing a spot in the 2026/27 Champions League.
