Official! Spanish football icon retires at just 32
Suso has brought the curtain down on his playing career much earlier than many expected.
Details: Spanish winger Suso has retired from professional football at the age of 32. Cádiz officially confirmed that Jesús Joaquín Fernández will end his spell as a player and take on a new role within the club. From October, the former first-team captain will become an institutional representative of Cádiz, remaining closely involved with the team where his football journey began.
Suso returned to Cádiz in the summer of 2025, hoping to help his boyhood club make its way back to the top tier of Spanish football. However, the final chapter of his career did not unfold as he had imagined, and the two sides have now agreed on a completely different future for him.
The Spaniard spent his career in three of Europe's major football countries and became particularly associated with Sevilla and AC Milan. His technical quality, left foot and ability to create chances made him a recognizable figure in Spanish and Italian football for more than a decade.
It is worth noting that Suso finishes his club career with three major trophies to his name: he won two of them with Sevilla and another with AC Milan. His football story will now continue off the pitch, with Cádiz already preparing a new institutional role for their former captain.
