A new chapter is beginning for Riyad Mahrez in the Middle East.

Details: Qatari side Al-Shamal have officially announced the signing of 35-year-old Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez. The former Manchester City star joins the club on a free transfer after leaving Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.

Al-Shamal confirmed the arrival through their official social media channels, putting an end to speculation over Mahrez's future. The Algerian had been without a club since his departure from Al Ahli following three seasons in Saudi Arabia.

Mahrez now moves to another Gulf championship and joins a team currently competing in the Qatar Stars League. Al-Shamal sit fifth in the standings with eight points from their opening five league matches.

The winger arrives with enormous experience. Mahrez was one of the key figures in Leicester City's sensational Premier League triumph in 2016 before moving to Manchester City, where he won four more English league titles and the UEFA Champions League.

It is worth noting that Mahrez also helped Al Ahli win back-to-back AFC Champions League Elite titles in 2025 and 2026. He retired from international football after the 2026 World Cup, finishing his Algeria career with 40 goals in 119 appearances and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations trophy.
