Leeds United have added a huge amount of international and Bundesliga experience to their defence.

Details: Leeds United have officially announced the permanent signing of Switzerland international Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 29-year-old centre-back becomes the club's fourth new addition of the summer transfer window and reunites with head coach Daniel Farke, under whom he previously played at Borussia Mönchengladbach during the 2022/23 campaign.

Elvedi leaves Borussia Mönchengladbach after more than a decade with the German club. He joined the Foals ahead of the 2015/16 season after beginning his senior career at Zürich and went on to make 364 appearances for Gladbach in all competitions, scoring 19 goals.

The Swiss defender accumulated 318 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Mönchengladbach, the highest total by any non-German player in the club's history. His experience also extends to international football: Elvedi has earned 73 caps for Switzerland and has represented his country at every major tournament since Euro 2016.

It is worth noting that Elvedi played every minute of Switzerland's 2026 World Cup campaign, helping the national team reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 1954.
