Cristiano Ronaldo's conflict with the Portugal national team has taken another dramatic turn.

Details: According to Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese Football Federation has officially opened disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo and imposed a provisional suspension on the legendary striker. The decision was made by the federation's disciplinary body on October 9, following events reported on October 7.

The federation confirmed that Ronaldo had already been subject to an automatic preventive suspension. Now, a further non-automatic preventive suspension has been imposed, while the disciplinary proceedings have been classified as urgent. The final verdict and the duration of any punishment have yet to be determined.

The controversy began after Ronaldo left Portugal's training camp on September 30 following a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus. The 41-year-old forward was frustrated after remaining on the bench throughout the Nations League match against Norway, despite expecting to receive playing time.

Interestingly, Ronaldo himself publicly demanded punishment for his actions. In a lengthy statement, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner apologized to his teammates and Portuguese supporters, accepted responsibility for leaving the camp and insisted that his status as captain should not provide any mitigating circumstances.

Under Article 160 of the Portuguese Football Federation's disciplinary regulations, unjustified abandonment of national team duty can result in a suspension of between one and six months. However, no final sanction has been announced in Ronaldo's case. It is worth noting that the Portuguese legend holds his country's all-time records with 146 goals in 234 international appearances.
