Official: Milan star joins Bundesliga powerhouse
Christopher Nkunku is heading back to the place where he became one of the Bundesliga's biggest stars.
Details: RB Leipzig have officially confirmed the return of Christopher Nkunku. The 28-year-old French forward has rejoined the German club from AC Milan on a season-long loan, with the agreement also including an option to make the transfer permanent.
Nkunku returns to Leipzig three years after leaving the club for Chelsea. His first spell in Germany lasted from 2019 to 2023 and was the most productive period of his career, establishing the Frenchman as one of the most dangerous attacking players in European football.
After his spell in England, Nkunku joined AC Milan permanently from Chelsea in August 2025. The Rossoneri signed him to a contract running until June 2030, but just one year later the forward is returning to the Bundesliga, initially on a temporary basis.
Leipzig will begin their 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach on August 29. Nkunku's arrival therefore comes just days before the club's first league fixture of the new season.
It is worth noting that during his first spell with RB Leipzig, Nkunku made 172 appearances and scored 70 goals. He also won the DFB-Pokal twice and finished as the Bundesliga's joint top scorer in the 2022/23 season.
