Official: John Heitinga appointed as Thomas Frank's new assistant at Tottenham

Heitinga is a highly sought-after specialist among many Premier League giants.

Details: Today, Tottenham's official page on social network X announced that the 42-year-old former Ajax head coach John Heitinga has officially become the assistant to Spurs' head coach Thomas Frank.

From July 2024 to May 2025, John Heitinga served as Arne Slot’s first assistant at Liverpool, after which he left Merseyside to take charge of Ajax Amsterdam. However, his tenure there was short-lived, as he left the club after just a couple of months due to disappointing results.

The duration of the contract between Heitinga and Tottenham remains undisclosed.

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank expressed his genuine excitement to have an assistant of this caliber on his staff:

"John is a fantastic addition to our coaching team. His abilities, personality, and character will be a tremendous asset both on and off the pitch.

He enjoyed an outstanding playing career in Europe, including five years in the Premier League and appearances for the Netherlands national team.

As a former defender, that will be one of his main responsibilities on the training ground, and he brings vast coaching and management experience at every level of the game, which will truly benefit us going forward." Frank stated.

At the moment, Tottenham sit 14th in the Premier League table, having collected 27 points from 21 matches.
