Spain are not ready to part ways with the man behind their recent golden era.

Details: Luis de la Fuente has extended his contract as head coach of the Spain national team until 2030. The decision means the 65-year-old specialist is expected to lead La Roja through the next World Cup cycle, including the 2030 tournament, which will be staged primarily in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

De la Fuente's previous agreement was due to run until the end of Euro 2028, but the Spanish federation has decided to extend the partnership for another two years. RFEF president Rafael Louzán publicly announced the new agreement during the World Football Summit.

The extension comes after an outstanding period for the national team. Under De la Fuente, Spain won the UEFA Nations League in 2023, lifted the European Championship trophy in 2024 and then became world champions in 2026.

De la Fuente took charge of Spain's senior national team in December 2022 after spending many years within the federation's youth structure. Before receiving the senior job, he had already won the European Under-19 Championship in 2015, the European Under-21 Championship in 2019 and an Olympic silver medal with Spain in Tokyo.

It is worth noting that the 2030 World Cup will have special significance for Spain, as the country will be one of the main hosts of the tournament. De la Fuente now has the opportunity to defend the world title on home soil.
