The Eddie Howe era at St. James' Park has officially come to an end.

Details: Newcastle has announced that the manager has informed the board of his decision to step down as head coach. The club accepted Howe's decision and thanked him for his outstanding contribution to the team's development.

The English coach did not disclose the reasons for his departure in the published statement. Newcastle kept its announcement brief, expressing gratitude to Howe for his work.

Howe took charge of Newcastle in November 2021 and, over several seasons, transformed the Magpies from relegation battlers into regular European contenders. Under the guidance of the English manager, Newcastle returned to the Champions League and once again began challenging for the highest honours in English football.

Howe's crowning achievement came with victory in the 2025 EFL Cup. In the final, Newcastle defeated Liverpool to claim their first domestic trophy in 70 years, after which the coach was awarded the honorary Freedom of Newcastle for his contribution to the history of both the club and the city.

Reminder: Here we go! Newcastle settle on new head coach — contract until 2030 already agreed.
