Official: Ernesto Valverde to leave Athletic Bilbao head coach position. What happened?

Valverde has made a tough decision.
Details: Today, the official Athletic Bilbao club page on X published a video message from 62-year-old head coach Ernesto Valverde, in which the coach announced that he will leave the team at the end of the season and will not sign a new contract.
“This is a decision I’ve been considering for a long time, and it’s been agreed with the club,” Valverde declared.
However, Valverde still has 10 matches ahead at the helm of the Basques, and the club has promised him a worthy farewell with the team.
Ernesto Valverde took charge of Athletic Bilbao in 2022. This was already his third spell at the club, having previously managed the Basques from 2003 to 2005 and again from 2013 to 2017.
Valverde’s current contract with Athletic Bilbao expires this summer at the end of the current season, and as we now know, it will not be extended.
