Official! Barcelona sign Portugal national team star
João Cancelo is wearing the Barcelona shirt once again.
Details: Barcelona have officially completed the signing of Portuguese defender João Cancelo. The 32-year-old has agreed a three-year contract with the Catalan club, keeping him at Barça until the summer of 2029.
The move marks another return to Catalonia for the Portugal international. Cancelo previously represented Barcelona on loan and made it clear during the latest negotiations that returning to the club was his preferred option.
Before the agreement was finalized, the defender had been working on his departure from Al Hilal. Barcelona were waiting for that situation to be resolved before completing the deal, and the negotiations have now resulted in a permanent return for the experienced full-back.
Cancelo gives Barcelona another experienced option on the flank and arrives already familiar with the club and its surroundings. His versatility also allows him to operate on either side of defence, something that could provide the coaching staff with additional flexibility during the new season.
It is worth noting that Cancelo has already played for Barcelona before. During his previous spell with the Catalan club, the Portuguese defender made 23 appearances, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
