OFFICIAL. Atletico have signed Julian Alvarez. The transfer was announced with a funny drawing
Argentine national team striker Julián Álvarez has officially transferred from Manchester City to Atlético Madrid.
As previously reported, Atlético paid €75 million for Álvarez's transfer, with an additional €20 million potentially available in bonuses for the English champions.
Atlético announced Álvarez's transfer on their official X page with a meme depicting Spider-Man in the club’s jersey. This is a nod to Álvarez's nickname "Spider-Man," a moniker he earned for often celebrating goals by donning the superhero’s mask during his time at River Plate.
Álvarez is the second forward Atlético has acquired this summer. Earlier, the Colchoneros signed Alexander Sørloth, last season’s second-highest scorer in La Liga.
It’s also worth noting that today, it was confirmed that Atlético striker Samu Omorodion’s transfer to Chelsea has fallen through.
Last season, Álvarez appeared in 36 Premier League matches, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists. At Copa América 2024, where Argentina triumphed, the Manchester City forward played in 5 matches and scored 2 goals.
