Ødegaard on fire! Arsenal captain seals victory over Chelsea and surpasses last season’s tally
Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 in the third round of the 2026/27 Premier League season. The winning goal was scored by Gunners captain Martin Ødegaard, who has already been more prolific at the start of the new campaign than he was last season.
Chelsea player Rogers opened the scoring, but Arsenal managed to turn the game around. Kai Havertz restored parity before Ødegaard fired home to secure victory for his side.
The goal was the Norwegian midfielder’s second in the Premier League this season. Ødegaard needed just three matches to score more Premier League goals than he did last season. In the 2025/26 campaign, the Gunners captain made 24 Premier League appearances and scored just once.
Ødegaard has therefore surpassed his tally from the previous league campaign after just three rounds. His winning goal also helped Arsenal extend their impressive unbeaten run against Chelsea. The Blues have now gone 12 matches in all competitions without beating the Gunners, with Chelsea’s last victory over their London rivals coming in August 2021.
